When you think of Diego Maradona, its a name that will forever echo in the history of the beautiful game, and only Pele the iconic Brazilian footballer can be placed alongside him in terms of what these two individuals have contributed to the world of football. In 2000 Fifa created a once off award to celebrate the player of the 20th century, and Maradona and Pele were joint winners of the prestigious award, announced in the Italian city of Rome. The new documentary directed by Oscar winning director Asif Kapadia constructed of 500 hours of never before seen footage, focuses on Maradona’s career at S.S.C Napoli Football Club in the 1980’s. The Diego Maradona documentary first premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival 19 May 2019, and is now currently screening at cinemas in the United Kingdom.
